Welcome to the PASTEL Saturday Club

The PASTEL Saturday Club - originally set up in 2005 by Parent Carers, and initially developed with the assistance of a Big Lottery Fund grant - provides respite in the form of informal learning, recreation and socialising with others. Apart from a few sessional workers, all the directors and members of the PASTEL Management Committee are volunteers.

PASTEL serves young adults with learning disabilities, aged 13-25, and who are still at school or college. For those who have left school or college there is the PASTEL Tuesday Club.
These fun workshops run on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month, throughout the year, from 9.30 am to 3.30pm. Members bring a packed lunch. Supervision is provided by professional staff, supported by volunteer peer mentors. The volunteer peer mentors

are young adults of the same age range who act as role models and create a more inclusive setting. The ratio of members to general support is usuially 2:1.

Club members never exceed 12, in order to keep the group informal, focussed and friendly. They are extremely well supported by a prefessional session worker, 2 adult volunteers and 4 peer mentor volunteers.

The PASTEL Saturday Club is all about boosting members' self-estem and confidence and improving their communications, decision-making and team-working. Members are expected to attend regularly, engage with the activites, and other members, and enjoy themselves!

PASTEL's Admission Policy requires members to have a diagnosis of a learning disability (mild/moderate/severe), have independent personal care skills and be able to demonstrate a minimum level of compliance necessary for his/her development, and to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

We are open to self-referrals - or referrals via schools / colleges, transitions teams, social work teams, DWP / Job CentrePlus, community support etc.

PASTEL is based at the multi-functional Fromus Centre, Saxmundham. We mainly serve those from a catchment area of up to 20 miles around Saxmundham.
